Embark on a 30-minute guided tour through the lifecycle of a trout at the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery – one of the largest indoor fish hatcheries in North America!
This tour will take you on a journey to discover what it takes to raise over a million trout each year and will uncover the role fish stocking plays in keeping fish apart of Alberta's future. The tour wraps up with everyone's favourite activity - feeding thousands of rainbow trout a snack.
What to Expect
- A staff-led, 30-minute tour through the life cycle of a rainbow trout at the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery.
- Witness the care and knowledge required to raise trout from eggs all the way to their eventual release into Alberta lakes and ponds.
- Learn how the Alberta Fish Stocking Program helps ease the stress of sport fishing on Alberta’s native trout species.
- Finish the tour by feeding thousands of trout a snack.
Hatchery Tour Policies
Be prepared for the best possible experience by planning ahead:
- Tickets subject to capacity; pre-purchasing tickets online is recommended. Tickets can be purchased at the link below.
- To help keep our fish safe, guests must clean their hands (hand sanitizer or soap) and walk across a disinfectant mat to enter.
- Late admittance is not permitted; plan to arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of tour start time.
- No exchanges or refunds permitted.

- Spaces limited, arrive early or pre-purchase tickets online to reserve a spot.
Extended Hours: July 2 to September 28, 2024:
- Tuesdays – Saturdays at 12:00 PM and at 2:30 PM
Late admittance is not permitted. Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start of the tour.
Youth under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a paid adult/senior.

Guided tours are recommended for guests ages 6 and up.
Limited free parking is available in the lot for Pearce Estate Park.
The parking lot can fill up during summer months. Please allow sufficient time to find parking or consider carpooling or other means of transportation where safe and possible. Tours begin at their scheduled start time. Late admittance is not permitted.
