Explore the Marshes
Located within the City of Calgary's Pearce Estate Park, our Interpretive Wetlands boast 15-hectares of natural trails to wander.
Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of urban wildlife that make their homes in the park throughout the different seasons!
Ducks Unlimited Canada Marsh
Explore one of the most active urban wetlands in Calgary! This beautifully-designed constructed habitat proves that if you build it, they will come.
“They” being a rich biodiversity of birds, mammals, insects, and more. This is a fantastic place to practice wildlife watching and a favourite of city birdwatchers.
Floating Fen
As one of two types of wetlands that contain peat moss,
the plants on this constructed floating fen reach below the fen to help keep the water clean.
Sandstone Pond
This pond is the first of several natural filtration sites that use the Fish Hatchery effluent (already cleaned to a very high standard before leaving the hatchery water system)
to create aquatic habitats.
The habitats themselves provide one more round of settling and filtering, making this an ideal site to observe watershed forces at work.
Streams
The streams provide homes to a variety of plants and animals found in the province. Water features with forest canopy make ideal wildlife watching sites.
